In 2006 HZ Zamarte celebrated 60 years of selections work.

The achievements of HZ Zamarte are the result of hard and consistent work of several generations of breeders, of those who safeguarded breeding materials from the turmoil of the Second World War and those who patiently led systematic selection programs aimed at obtaining better potato varieties.
Thanks to this it was created more than 80 potato cultivars from the beginning. Most of them received potato producers recognition.

Together with breeding progress this allowed HZ Zamarte to be in the lead of the national and European potato breeding centers.

Nowadays HZ Zamarte Ltd – IHAR Group leads selection works and breeding pre-basic and basic seeds starting from in vitro microplants and microtubers till the super elites and elites.


The owner of HZ Zamarte is Institute of Plant Breeding and Acclimatization (IHAR) in Radzikow (near Warsaw) whereas administrative supervisor is Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. From 1980 breeding program of HZ Zamarte is headed by dr Andrzej Pawlak who nowadays is Director of the board and Company.
